Should PT Symmetric Quantum Mechanics Be Interpreted as Nonlinear?

چکیده
The Feshbach-type reduction of the Hilbert space to the physically most relevant “model” subspace is suggested as a means of a formal unification of the standard quantum mechanics with its recently proposed PT symmetric modification. The resulting “effective” Hamiltonians Heff(E) are always Hermitian, and the two alternative forms of their energy-dependence are interpreted as a certain dynamical nonlinearity, responsible for the repulsion and/or attraction of the levels in the Hermitian and/or PT symmetric cases, respectively. The spontaneous PT symmetry breaking is then reflected by the loss of the Hermiticity of Heff while the pseudo-unitary evolution law persists in the unreduced Hilbert space.

Numerical Analysis of Stability for Temporal Bright Solitons in a PT-Symmetric NLDC
PT-Symmetry is one of the interesting topics in quantum mechanics and optics. One of the demonstration of PT-Symmetric effects in optics is appeared in the nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC). In the paper we numerically investigate the stability of temporal bright solitons propagate in a PT-Symmetric NLDC by considering gain in bar and loss in cross. By using the analytical solutions of pertu...
متن کاملMHD α2−dynamo, Squire equation and PT −symmetric interpolation between square well and harmonic oscillator
It is shown that the α−dynamo of Magnetohydrodynamics, the hydrodynamic Squire equation as well as an interpolation model of PT −symmetric Quantum Mechanics are closely related as spectral problems in Krein spaces. For the α−dynamo and the PT −symmetric model the strong similarities are demonstrated with the help of a 2 × 2 operator matrix representation, whereas the Squire equation is re-inter...
متن کاملQuantum Squeezed Light Propagation in an Optical Parity-Time (PT)-Symmetric Structure
We investigate the medium effect of a parity-time (PT)-symmetric bilayer on the quantum optical properties of an incident squeezed light at zero temperature (T=0 K). To do so, we use the canonical quantization approach and describe the amplification and dissipation properties of the constituent layers of the bilayer structure by Lorentz model to analyze the quadrature squeezing of the outgoing ...
متن کاملPT -symmetric Hamiltonians and their application in quantum information
We discuss the prospect of PT -symmetric Hamiltonians finding applications in quantum information science, and conclude that such evolution is unlikely to provide any benefit over existing techniques. Although it has been known for some time that PT -symmetric quantum theory, when viewed as a unitary theory, is exactly equivalent to standard quantum mechanics, proposals continue to be put forwa...
متن کاملIs PT -symmetric quantum mechanics just quantum mechanics in a non-orthogonal basis?
One of the postulates of quantum mechanics is that the Hamiltonian is Hermitian, as this guarantees that the eigenvalues are real. Recently there has been an interest in asking if H = H is a necessary condition, and has lead to the development of PT -symmetric quantum mechanics. This note shows that any finite physically acceptable non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is equivalent to doing ordinary quant...
